Bakersfield, California — A convicted child murderer was denied parole on July 10, 2025, after the California Board of Parole Hearings (BPH) determined that he continues to pose a current and unreasonable risk to public safety, according to the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.

George Tyler, a Rosamond resident, was convicted of the brutal murder of his girlfriend’s 5-year-old son in 2006. Tyler was under a court order that prohibited him from having contact with the child or his siblings at the time of the murder. Tyler violently assaulted the child after he responded to a question about tying his shoes, according to the DA.

Tyler’s mother, who had suffered approximately 100 incidents of domestic violence at his hands, was powerless to stop the attack. Tyler and his mother resisted her attempts to seek medical attention, resulting in the child’s death from blunt force trauma and organ failure on August 11, 2006.

Tyler was convicted of second-degree murder and assault on a child under the age of eight, which resulted in death by a Kern County jury in July 2009. He received a sentence of 25 years to life in state prison. Tyler is 45 years old and has spent approximately 19 years of his sentence in state prison.

During Tyler’s recent second hearing on July 10, the commissioners noted his inconsistent answers and attempts at impression management. The Kern County District Attorney’s Office, represented by Deputy District Attorney Gina Nargie, asked the BPH to deny parole. Assistant District Attorney Joseph Kinzel stated, “This individual does not deserve freedom, and our office will do everything possible to keep him incarcerated and fully accountable for this heinous crime.”

Tyler’s answers for his actions were inconsistent during his 2023 parole hearing as well.

Tyler’s next parole hearing could be in 18 months, as the BPH denied his request for three years.
