LIMA, Ohio – The arrival of summer weather brings plenty of sunshine and outdoor activities, but it also poses serious health risks to some residents. According to medical experts, people over the age of 65 are more likely to suffer from heat-related illnesses due to factors such as heart disease, certain medications, and impaired circulation.

Councilman Derry Glenn is once again collecting air conditioners to distribute to senior citizens in need to keep them cool during the summer months. Glenn is looking for either monetary donations or actual air conditioning units to help local seniors.

“I’ll come pick them up, old or new.” We can pick them up for the citizens. This is extremely beneficial to the population. A lot of people have called right now. We currently have 35 people on a waiting list. They need air conditioning right now. So, we want to make sure that we show our hometown pride and that the people know we care, as you have done since 2000 when we started this program, which has been very successful every year,” says Derry Glenn, Lima’s 6th Ward councilman.
