Coroner names the woman killed in Lake Ave collision

FORT WAYNE, IN — The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman who died in a car accident on Wednesday after fleeing police.

The coroner identified the woman as Alexandria Francine Baney, 31. According to the coroner’s press release, her cause of death was multiple blunt impact injuries sustained in a motor vehicle crash, and her manner of death was an accident.

Her death occurred after a crash on Wednesday morning, when police began pursuing a reported stolen SUV. The driver began to flee from police, driving erratically and eventually colliding with a group of trees near Lake Avenue and Wyss Road.

Baney was pinned in the car after the crash and had to be removed by the Fort Wayne Fire Department. She was then taken to a nearby hospital and died.

This fatal crash is Fort Wayne and Allen County’s 31st traffic death in 2025.

This incident is still being investigated.
