Fort Wayne, Indiana – The Allen County Coroner’s Office identified the victim of a fatal shooting on Fort Wayne’s south side last Thursday.
Officers say they were called to a church parking lot in the 700 block of West Rudisill Boulevard around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday after hearing reports of a shooting.
When police arrived on the scene, they discovered a man with apparent gunshot wounds, who was later pronounced dead.
On Monday, the coroner identified the victim as Damontre Tayshon Burnett, 24, of Fort Wayne.
Burnett’s death was ruled a homicide, the 17th in Allen County this year.
Last Friday, police announced that a 17-year-old had been arrested late Thursday night in connection with the shooting.
21Alive News spoke with a man who lives near the church where the shooting occurred and says he was leaving his house when he heard 5-6 gunshots.
He claims he then saw a small black car speed past his house, with two people inside and the passenger ducking down. The man claimed he then walked down to the church’s parking lot, where he discovered the victim.
On Friday morning, the FWPD executed a search warrant at an Ossian residence in connection with the shooting investigation; however, no arrests were made.
This is an ongoing investigation.
