Chicago Faces Fog, Summer Heat, and Weekend Storm Chances

CHICAGO, Ill. – Drivers across the Chicago area may encounter patchy fog late Thursday night into Friday morning, while residents should also prepare for a surge of summer-like heat lasting into early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, Friday will bring highs in the mid-80s to near 90 degrees inland, while cooler 70s prevail along the lakefront. A brief shower or thunderstorm could develop late Friday night into Saturday, with the best chance for rain coming Saturday evening into the overnight hours. Even then, most locations are expected to stay dry.

Saturday will heat up further, climbing to 85–91 degrees with humidity adding to the discomfort. While storms may briefly disrupt travel and outdoor plans, much of the day will remain hot and dry. By Sunday, the region turns hotter still, with highs pushing near 94 degrees inland and around 80 along the shoreline as lake breezes offer some relief.

The heat continues Monday with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s, though conditions will be more comfortable near the lake. Officials urge residents to limit strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours and remain alert for sudden downpours if storms develop Saturday night.

Warm, summerlike weather is expected to hold through early next week, with more updates to come if storm chances increase over the weekend.
