Police in Brazil say a professional bodybuilder was stabbed to death on Sunday after a fight in his apartment, and his girlfriend is in police custody after being seriously injured in the incident.
According to a Chapecó Civil Police statement, the confrontation began inside Valter de Vargas Aita, 41,’s unit on Rua 7 de Setembro. Police released photos of the aftermath, which show blood spattered on corridor walls as he attempted to flee and seek help.
Police did not identify Aita’s girlfriend, a 43-year-old woman who was also present in the apartment, but RIC, Terra, and NSC Total did.
Aita was stabbed in the abdomen, back, face, and neck and collapsed in a stairwell; his girlfriend underwent surgery and is being held under guard in the hospital.
Police said the woman had an outstanding warrant from Rio Grande do Sul for robbery resulting in death, with a 15-year sentence, and if she survives, they plan to seek a new temporary arrest order in connection with Sunday’s killing.
Detectives said they are still looking into whether anyone else was involved and will release more information as the investigation continues.
According to his social media posts, Aita, also known as “Valtinho” locally, was a personal trainer and competitive bodybuilder. According to regional outlets RIC, Oeste SC Noticias, and SBT News, he was a multiple state champion and the World Fitness Federation’s world runner-up in 2024.
