Central Texas Forecast Warm Days, Mild Nights Continue Into Mid-September

AUSTIN, Texas – Central Texas is heading into mid-September with seasonable warmth, mild nights, and only limited chances for rain, according to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio.

High temperatures across the region are forecast to remain steady in the low to upper 90s through Wednesday, September 17. Afternoon peaks of 95 to 97 degrees are likely in Austin, San Antonio, and Georgetown, while Hill Country communities such as Fredericksburg and Kerrville should run slightly cooler, topping out in the upper 80s to low 90s.

Forecasters expect overnight lows to bring modest relief. Austin will cool into the 69- to 72-degree range most nights, while San Antonio will hold a touch warmer, with readings in the upper 60s to low 70s. Hill Country valleys may dip into the mid-60s, offering some of the coolest overnight conditions in the region.

Rain chances remain on the slim side. Most of Central Texas faces only a 5–20 percent chance of isolated showers through the middle of next week. Slightly better odds exist for communities to the south and west, including Cuero, Eagle Pass, and Uvalde, where moisture could support a few scattered showers or storms by midweek. Still, widespread rainfall is not anticipated, and the overall pattern will remain dry for most areas.

The National Weather Service notes that this setup reflects typical September conditions in Central Texas, with summerlike heat lingering during the day and early hints of cooler nights beginning to emerge. While the temperatures are near to slightly above average for the month, officials emphasize that afternoon heat safety remains important, especially for those working outdoors or participating in sports and community events.

Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas, and continue monitoring updated forecasts in case rain chances increase. For now, the outlook favors warm, mostly dry conditions persisting into mid-September, with no major weather systems on the horizon to bring widespread change.
