Canyon Fire Triggers Mandatory Evacuations in Northern Los Angeles and Ventura Counties

Santa Clarita, California – Mandatory evacuations are underway in parts of northern Los Angeles County and Ventura County as the Canyon Fire has grown beyond 1,000 acres, threatening homes and forcing residents to leave with little warning.

Evacuation Orders and Warnings

Emergency officials have ordered residents in the following zones to evacuate immediately:
CAS-ROMERO, CAS-HASLEY, CAS-OAKCANYON, and CAS-VALVERDE.

Evacuation warnings – meaning residents should be ready to leave at short notice – are in effect for:
CAS-INDUSTRY, CAS-CAMBRIDGE, CAS-HILLCREST, CAS-SLOAN, CAS-GREENHILL, and CAS-GOLDENSTATE-B.

Authorities are urging residents to:

  1. Check evacuation status at genasys.com
  2. Sign up for emergency alerts
  3. Track road closures via lacounty.gov

Shelter and Animal Evacuation Options

The College of the Canyons gymnasium in Santa Clarita is open as an evacuation shelter, with parking available in lots 5, 6, and 7.

For animals:

  1. Large animals can be taken to Pierce College in Woodland Hills.
  2. Small pets are being accepted at the Castaic Animal Care Center and the Agoura Hills Animal Shelter.

Threat Could Continue Overnight

Officials warn that fire conditions remain dangerous, with the possibility of more evacuation orders if the blaze spreads. Residents should remain alert, stay informed, and be ready to act quickly.
