Antwerp Girls Win County Title, Paulding Boys Take Top Honors at Welcome Park

On Tuesday evening, cross country teams from all over Paulding County gathered at Welcome Park in Grover Hill for the annual Paulding County Meet, hosted by Wayne Trace. The event featured fierce competition at all levels, with standout performances from each county school.

The meet began with junior high competition, and the Antwerp junior high boys won first place as a team. Kahne Moore took second place overall, followed by Marshall Rice, Cy Zuber, Luke Saylor, and Krayston Eicher. Wayne Trace’s Wyatt Head won the boys race in 13:16.

Antwerp’s Destiny Getz led the junior high girls’ race, finishing first individually in 15:21. Though Antwerp did not score as a team, Josie Laker, Heidi Rice, and Jocelyn Laker all had strong performances. Maddie Morehead and Lauren Kipfer from Wayne Trace finished in the top five as well.

In varsity girls action, the Antwerp Lady Archers put on a commanding performance, earning their second perfect score of the season and winning the Paulding County championship. Antwerp claimed the top five spots, led by race winner Leigha Doster (23:49), who was closely followed by Gabriella Snyder, Raelynne Zuber, Emily Laker, and Gianna Laker. Taylor Stiebling, Jen Lawhorn, Annabelle Mowery, and Annabelle Saylor also contributed to the team’s depth chart. Antwerp finished with a team score of 15, outscoring Wayne Trace (51) and Paulding (64).

Paulding won the varsity boys race with a team score of 27, beating Wayne Trace (48) and Antwerp (50). Max Daeger of Paulding finished first overall with a time of 17:45. He was followed by teammates Landon Grinnell, Leonel Reyes, and Achilles Mead, who all made the top ten.

Antwerp’s Corbin Sargent finished second overall in 18:12, leading the Archers. He was helped by Bryceton Barker, Jason McKay, Tucker Doster, Isaac Buhrer, Gage Barker, Camden Herber, Aiden Hook, and Levi Shelton. Wayne Trace’s top finisher was Jaxon Cook, who finished fourth in 18:59, followed by Eli Treece and Jerrick Johnson.

The Archers will take a ten-day break before returning to action at the Edgerton Invitational on Tuesday, September 23.
