Vermilion, Ohio – A driver was taken to the hospital after investigators said she crashed into a gas station canopy in Vermilion on Monday.

The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. at the Mickey Mart BP gas station on Liberty Avenue.

According to the Vermilion Fire Department, the driver, a woman in her 70s, appeared to have a medical problem as she drove through the intersection and a grassy area before colliding with one of the fuel pumps.

According to Fire Chief Bill Brown, one of the support beams was knocked down, causing the canopy to partially collapse onto the vehicle.

The woman was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for a possible head injury, according to fire officials.
