A Florida man is behind bars after allegedly pushing a woman into the Miami River during an argument, resulting in her death days later.
William Youmans Jr., 47, is currently facing an attempted second-degree murder charge, which is expected to be upgraded following the victim’s death. According to a probable cause arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, witnesses told Miami police that Youmans and the victim were arguing on Tuesday morning near the SW 1st Street Bridge, not far from Jose Marti Park.
One witness who was across the river reported seeing Youmans and the victim throwing objects at each other. At one point, the victim sat down on the seawall. Youmans allegedly approached the victim and pushed her into the water below. The witness called 911 and kept an eye on Youmans until the cops arrived. He pointed out the suspect, and police arrested him.
Police rescued the woman and rushed her to the hospital, where she was initially listed in critical condition. According to local media reports, 39-year-old Marie Roseme died on Thursday.
Cops took Youmans to the police station, where he engaged in “violent and erratic behavior,” such as screaming and punching walls. He also masturbated and ejaculated on the interview room table, according to the affidavit. Because of his actions, police terminated the interview and took him to jail, where he remains on a $100,000 bond.
Youmands was described as homeless in the affidavit, and one of the witnesses, who exercises daily in the park, said she frequently sees Roseme there.
Youmands’ next court date is set for July 15.
