LIMA, Ohio – The bidding was fierce as people attempted to take home items from the 175th Allen County Fair.
The Nutrien Plaza Stage was packed with auction items, including wood sculptures carved this week by the Bear Hollow Wood Carvers, bottles of wine from the fair, and hanging baskets to decorate the midway.
All proceeds benefit the Allen County Agricultural Society’s scholarship and grant program. This year, the society provided ten scholarships worth $750 each, as well as its first-ever success grant to assist a student entering the trades after high school.
“That really fulfills what our mission is here at the fairgrounds and as an agricultural society, we’re promoting the talented youth that we have in this community through agricultural experiences, and being able to give back to them in this way is not only going to help them further their education, but also, if they’re going right into the workforce, it’s going to help give them a leg up as they make that transition from high school to the workforce,” Troy Elwer, the fairgrounds director, added.
This year’s auction featured Ethan Jordan’s watercolor paintings, which captured various sights from the 175th Allen County Fair.
