LIMA, Ohio – Marimor Legacy Park and Playground observed a day of honor and remembrance.
The Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities held its fourth annual Butterfly Memorial, which honors those who died while receiving services from the board, as well as those who supported its mission. As part of the memorial, a butterfly release was held in their honor.
This year, 39 new butterflies will be added to the garden to commemorate the impact each individual had on the community.
“Butterflies are very representative of people with developmental disabilities and their experiences, particularly their growth into the community, which people did not always have, so we want to honor and recognize that, and we… A lot of these people…” We’ve worked with them for our entire lives, so our employees become very close to them. Renee Kohler, Superintendent of the Allen County Board of DD, says it provides some closure for her staff.
Over the last four years, including this year’s ceremony, 194 butterflies have been planted in the garden.
