A 22-year-old woman in Texas has been arrested after she allegedly crashed into an overturned car while intoxicated, killing three people on the scene, including one who had stopped to assist those in the already-overturned vehicle. Kearra Thomas was arrested on Sunday and charged with manslaughter in connection with one of the deaths, officials said.
The victims were Agustin Guillen, 38, Quinn Stegall, 21, and Maximo Ramirez, 49.
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers from the Round Rock Police Department and emergency medical personnel responded to a “major vehicle collision” on June 29, 2025, in the 1100 block of North Interstate 35. Before officers arrived, they were informed that there were “multiple obvious deaths on scene.”
Upon arriving at the scene, the affiant observed that the road “was well-lit, with all proper working and bright lamps.” Police said Thomas was driving a blue Ford when he collided with a silver Honda that was overturned and on its roof, with “an obvious fatality of the passenger” inside.
Police spoke with Thomas at the scene and stated that they “detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage” coming from her and her boyfriend, who was in the passenger seat at the time of the crash. Thomas allegedly stated that she was driving north on the interstate when the car in front of her came to a “abrupt stop.” She then veered into the left lane, where the silver Honda had already overturned, colliding “head on.”
Thomas, described by police as “nonchalant and sedated,” allegedly stated that she was driving the car back to Temple after leaving a restaurant, but “did not know the name or location of the restaurant.” She claimed she only drank water at the restaurant, but she had previously consumed alcohol.
“Yes…a little Buzzball…they’re called Big Sipz,” she allegedly said. According to police, a standard “Big Sipz” canned cocktail is 200 ml and contains 16% alcohol by volume.
Thomas stated that she had only one cocktail around midnight and was unsure of the flavour, but it was purple. She also allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the evening.
Police took note of Thomas’ reaction when asked how she felt at the time, “given the situation she [was] in.”
“The defendant smiled and replied, ‘I don’t know. “I’ve seen things I’ve never seen before,” the affidavit reads. “I’m not sure how I feel…” “I’m just grateful to be alive.”
Following a field sobriety test, Thomas took a breath test, which revealed a blood alcohol concentration of.103, which is significantly higher than the Texas legal limit of.08, according to police. Thomas was taken into custody and transported to the Williamson County Jail.
Thomas is currently being held in lieu of a $300,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court again on August 20, according to records.
Authorities have yet to release any information about the initial crash that caused the Toyota to overturn.
Maximo Ramirez was the victim who stopped his car to assist the other two victims. His sister, Mari Ramirez, told Austin CBS affiliate KEYE that his attempt to rescue others exemplifies the selfless person he was.
“My brother was very simple and had a kind heart,” she explained to the station. “He was a medical assistant, so he got out of his car to help someone else. He was always doing well. He would give the shirt off his back to assist someone else.”
