DECATUR, IN.— The Adams County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Jail Ministry and Project Connect, organized the facility’s first baptism ceremony on Saturday, which included nine inmates.
“This milestone reflects our shared belief that accountability and redemption can go hand in hand,” Sheriff Daniel Mawhorr said.
Members of the Jail Ministry led the service, which was supported logistically by Project Connect and jail staff. Officials stated that security procedures were followed to ensure the safety and dignity of all participants.
“Seeing nine men and women make this public profession of faith was deeply meaningful,” Chief Deputy Eric Beer said. “We’re grateful to our Jail Ministry volunteers and Project Connect for helping create a safe, respectful opportunity for personal transformation.”
Project Connect, which supports reentry and connects people with community resources, also helped with coordination and follow-up.
“Moments like this can be a turning point,” Project Connect’s Rob Parker explained. “We’re committed to walking alongside participants as they take their next steps.”
The Sheriff’s Office stated that it intends to continue collaborating with community partners to provide programs that support rehabilitation and restoration while promoting safer communities.
