LIMA, Ohio – If you have books sitting around collecting dust, why not donate them to a good cause and help someone’s education?
The American Association of University Women, or AAUW, has begun the collection process for its annual book sale in September. If you have old books, CDs, puzzles, DVDs, or vinyl records, you can donate them to the AAUW at the former Rite Aid on Elm Street and Eastown Road.
The donations will be used for the book sale in September, with the proceeds going towards scholarships for Allen County girls.
“Within AAUW, we’re really strong on education, especially STEM education for girls, and we really want to see girls have the same opportunities that guys have had for years,” said Sue Ann Shaw, AAUW financial officer and book sale co-chair.
“We really want to get money out there so these girls can go, and books are extremely important. They are important in education. The community enjoys reading and would like to get rid of the books they have read, so it’s a win-win situation for both. They can bring items in and then return later to shop for new books.”
AAUW will accept donations from 9 a.m. to noon every Tuesday and Thursday until August 21st at the old Rite Aid on the corner of Elm Street and Eastown Road.
They will also be accepting donations on Wednesday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m.
The book sale will take place from September 2nd to 6th.
