Brownhill Township, Ohio – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a Tuesday morning crash on the Ohio Turnpike that sent one driver to the hospital with serious injuries.
The crash occurred at 8:22 a.m. on the Turnpike’s eastbound lanes near milepost 137 in Brownhelm Township, Lorain County.
According to the highway patrol, a 2025 Jeep Compass became disabled in the right lane after being struck from behind by a 2020 Volvo tractor-trailer.
According to investigators, the Jeep drove off the road and collided with a guardrail. The driver, a 54-year-old Ann Arbor, Michigan woman, was flown to Cleveland Metro Health Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The Volvo driver, a 51-year-old man from Hicksville, Ohio, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, according to state troopers.
The eastbound lanes were closed for approximately 40 minutes while crews cleared the scene.
The crash is still being investigated.
