Elmore, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that a Port Clinton man died Friday afternoon after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing on a rural road.

Jeffrey Rollins, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 4:59 p.m. crash on West Portage River South Road, west of State Route 590 in Ottawa County’s Harris Township, according to troopers from the patrol’s Sandusky post.

Mr. Rollins, who was not wearing a helmet, was driving westbound when he failed to negotiate a curve, veered off the right side of the road, and collided with a guardrail, according to troopers. The impact threw Mr. Rollins from the motorcycle, which overturned.

The highway patrol said that no impairment was suspected, and that the investigation would continue on Saturday.

On Saturday, family members launched an online fund-raiser at gofund.me/ef5debbc to help with Mr. Rollins’ funeral expenses, describing him as “a father, a grandfather, a friend to many, a man of God, and a man who did his best in life.”
