PIERRE — A Sturgis man was sentenced to 35 years in prison on Friday for attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and discharge of a firearm at an occupied structure, which occurred at the Meade County Law Enforcement Center.
Fredrick Wilson Jr., 20, was sentenced to 30 years for attempted murder and 10 years, with five years suspended, for discharge of a firearm. The sentences will be served consecutively. Wilson pleaded guilty, but mentally ill, to the charges in July.
On June 30, 2024, Wilson fired shots at an officer and the law enforcement center. Explosive components were discovered near the building’s entry doors, but were never detonated. There were no injuries.
