Fort Wayne, Indiana — The Allen County Coroner’s Office identified the guy who was fatally shot by Fort Wayne police on Monday.
The coroner identified him as Christopher James Stutler, who was 51 years old.
Stutler allegedly “brandished” a gun in front of policemen on West State Boulevard, forcing police to open fire on him. It’s unknown how many cops were there, or whether Stutler fired a shot from his gun.
Although police and medics attempted to revive him on the scene, he was transported to a hospital and later pronounced dead. The coroner determined that he died as a result of several gunshot wounds.
It was declared a homicide, as is customary with police action shootings.
The FWPD Internal Affairs Division, Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and FWPD Homicide Unit continue to investigate the shooting. The Indiana State Police will carry out an independent inquiry.
