A guy from Elyria has been accused with a burglary at a nursing facility in Westlake

Burglary: Center Ridge Road

A nursing home on Center Ridge Road called the Westlake Police Department at 12:45 p.m. on August 12 to report that a suspicious man was wandering around the facility.

He had been there for some time, and when confronted by staff, he explained that he was there to see a relative. Staff noted that he was seen entering residents’ rooms but not actually visiting anyone. When asked to leave, he refused.

Officers responded and found the man across the street. He told them he had gone inside the nursing home to see his grandmother. When asked for her name, the suspect revealed that he only knew her first name, Juanita.

Officers, suspicious that the man did not know his grandmother’s surname, confirmed that no one named Juanita lived there.

Surveillance video captured the man wandering inside for approximately 40 minutes. It was confirmed that he entered a resident’s room and remained there for several minutes, rummaging through belongings.

The 22-year-old Elyria man has been arrested and charged with burglary.

Carrying a concealed weapon on I-90

At 8:30 p.m. on August 9, officers stopped a vehicle on I-90 near Clague Road for moving and license plate violations.

The driver admitted having a suspended driver’s license. According to a Westlake police statement, the 29-year-old Cleveland man had outstanding warrants from three other agencies for previous traffic offenses. The investigation revealed that he had a loaded firearm in the car. When the officers asked if he was armed, he did not inform them.
