PORT CLINTON, Ohio — A Bellevue man who threatened to kill his attorney, the judge, and the prosecutors in his criminal case has been sentenced to ten years in prison, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced on Monday.
Eric Braun, 49, was originally charged in February 2023 for a road rage incident in Ottawa County. He was charged with improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony, and aggravated menacing, a first-degree misdemeanor.
During the proceedings, Yost claimed Braun threatened to kill his attorney, the presiding judge, the assigned prosecutor, and the elected prosecuting attorney. He was later charged with four counts of intimidation of an attorney, a fourth-degree felony, and one count of aggravated menacing.
On June 13, a jury convicted Braun on all counts. On Friday, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
“You can’t threaten lawyers and judges and not expect there to be consequences,” Yost pointed out. “A decade behind bars will give this defendant ample time to think before he speaks.”
The Ohio State Highway Patrol looked into the initial road rage incident. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office investigated the threats, and Yost’s Special Prosecutions Section handled the case.
