Lorain police are investigating after a 16-year-old boy allegedly shot and killed his mother.
On Sunday at 6:45 a.m., police were dispatched to the 1500 block of West 24th Street after receiving reports of an unresponsive woman.
When police arrived, they discovered a 45-year-old woman with what appeared to be a gunshot wound in the head.
She was pronounced dead on the scene.
According to police, a 16-year-old boy fled the scene before they arrived, but was later apprehended.
He was arrested and charged with murder.
Neighbors described the family, including the teen, as friendly and helpful, and expressed shock at the allegations. According to one person who knows them, the family is already dealing with tragedy after the woman’s adult daughter died in 2024.
Despite not knowing the family personally, some neighbors told News 5 that they were heartbroken.
