A 10-year-old boy is in critical condition after a typical childhood prank gone wrong.

According to KHOU 11, ABC 13, and Click2Houston, the child was playing ding-dong-ditch — a game in which you ring a doorbell and then run away before someone answers it — with friends in Houston around 11 p.m. local time on Saturday, Aug. 30.

While fleeing from one house, the homeowner allegedly opened fire on the group, striking the young victim multiple times.

Police were called, and the boy was rushed to the hospital, where he is currently being treated, according to KHOU 11, ABC 13, and Click2Houston.

Authorities have not yet publicly released the name of a suspect, but they have confirmed that an individual was arrested in connection with the incident, according to reports.

The following morning, on Sunday, August 31, ABC 13 and Click2Houston reported that police dropped off a man in handcuffs at the home where the alleged shooting occurred.

Authorities said the investigation into the incident is still ongoing. They are asking anyone with information to contact the Houston Police Department.

PEOPLE contacted the HPD for comment on August 31 but did not receive an immediate response.
