Sioux Falls, South Dakota – The tornado that touched down in rural Codington County on Sunday traveled nearly four miles, according to a new National Weather Service report.
The storm started in an open field between 168th and 169th Streets, west of 442nd Avenue, near a farm.
KELOLAND viewers shared photos of the funnel.
According to the NWS, the tornado struck the farm less than ten minutes later, destroying a house, several buildings, and numerous trees.
“The tornado would track south, passing through fields and pasture land before crossing 169th Street, where corn was flattened on both sides of the road. The tornado continued south, crossing 170th and 171st streets before roping out just north of 172nd Street, according to the report.
The tornado was on the ground for approximately 21 minutes. The storm is still under investigation. The NWS reported no fatalities or injuries.
The NWS reported that the Henry tornado was EF-2 in strength on Sunday. The maximum winds were estimated to be 135 mph.
