Lima, Ohio — A prominent feature of one of the region’s earliest indoor shopping malls has been removed. The large white tower, a defining feature of the former Macy’s department store, was demolished Wednesday evening.
Crews from Complete Demolition Services have been working for just over two months to demolish the 201,000-square-foot structure. As demolition continues, materials like concrete and metal are separated for recycling.
On Thursday morning, J and D Snyder Excavating started milling the surrounding parking lot.
The Allen County Land Bank is leading the project, which is expected to be completed within the next few weeks. The demolition was funded by a state grant from the Brownfield Remediation Program, as well as matching funds from the property owner.

The project allows for the construction of a Target store on that site.
