SHAWNEE, Ohio – A local scout has achieved a historical milestone.

Mia Kohli of Scouts BSA Troop 106 has earned the Eagle Scout rank, making her the first young woman in the Great Oaks District to do so since the Scouts BSA program began accepting girls in 2019. Mia hopes that her leadership and example will encourage younger girls and fellow scouts to pursue their passions.

“If you set your mind to something, you can accomplish it. It may appear difficult at first, but if you are passionate about it, you will succeed,” said Mia Kohli, an Eagle Scout with Scouts BSA Troop 106.

For her Eagle project, she collaborated with Shawnee Elmwood Schools and several local organizations to create a pollinator habitat. The project encourages children to connect with nature and overcome their fear of bees through education and hands-on experience.

“I hope they learn from it, because we have bee houses and the like. Also, don’t be afraid of bees, because they’re usually harmless and there to help the environment. They’re actually really interesting to learn about if you look into it,” said Kohli.

Mia’s accomplishment paves the way for future generations of young women in scouting and highlights the growing opportunities for leadership and community service within the Scouts BSA programme.
