LIMA, Ohio – The former executive director of the Allen County Regional Transit Authority (RTA), who was charged with theft from the agency, was offered a plea deal.
Sheila Haney appeared briefly in Allen County Common Pleas Court on Thursday for her final pre-trial hearing, where legal counsel for the State Auditors Office presented her with a plea deal.
According to the agreement, the charges against her would be reduced, and Haney would be required to pay nearly $30,000 in restitution to the RTA, as well as a recommended probationary period until the restitution is fully paid.
She has not accepted the deal at this time because she still has some concerns about it. The judge gave her two weeks until June 19th to make a decision, or her case would go to trial in July.
A grand jury indicted Haney in October on charges of theft in office, four counts of tampering with records, and additional charges of tampering with evidence and telecommunications fraud, all of which are third-degree felonies.
