Starting next week, Lorain’s public transportation will see key updates that riders should know:
Lorain County Transit will continue operating the popular ViaLC microtransit service, an on-demand van program running Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM. This service, launched in 2024, allows riders to schedule shared rides via a mobile app or phone for trips around Lorain and Elyria. Fare remains affordable at $2 per ride, with discounts for seniors, disabled persons, children, students, and veterans. The program is now funded through July 2026 thanks to new contracts and local city funding commitments. Additional service improvements and demand-response options will be added in conjunction with fixed-route buses to improve first/last-mile connectivity.
Also effective September 24, 2025, RTA’s Route 22 schedule will have changes impacting Lorain. This route connects Downtown Cleveland and Westgate Transit Center via Lorain and West 210th, with adjustments in timing and possible rerouting due to other City of Cleveland infrastructure projects. Riders are advised to check the Regional Transit Authority’s website regularly for updated schedules and alerts.
Furthermore, Lorain City Schools are transitioning all student transportation services in-house by the end of this school year, aiming to improve efficiency and save costs. Currently, some privatized bus routes remain but will be phased out over the year. Changes to school start/end times to optimize transportation routes will also be finalized soon, with notifications going out to parents through official channels.
Riders are encouraged to download transportation apps, use online trip planners, and stay connected with local transit announcements to adapt smoothly to route and service updates coming into effect next week in Lorain.
