President Donald Trump may have made a minor error during his speech at the state banquet in the United Kingdom.
In video footage from his speech at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, September 17, Trump, 79, looked at Princess Kate Middleton and thanked “very, very special” Queen Camilla. The moment prompted royal observers to wonder if he had temporarily confused the two women.
Trump also thanked King Charles III and Camilla, 78, for their “extraordinary graciousness,” adding that he was “deeply grateful” for the second state visit to the United Kingdom. He also described Prince William as Charles’ “remarkable son,” which some interpreted as a dig at Prince Harry.
Trump’s apparent “queen” gaffe comes amid rumors of tension between Camilla and Kate, 43, particularly after a video of their recent awkward interaction went viral.
Camilla was speaking with Trump’s wife, Melania Trump, on Wednesday when Kate walked in and joined the conversation. Kate and Melania, 55, greeted and exchanged words, but video footage appeared to show Camilla telling Kate to “move” and shooing her out of the way. Kate then went to stand beside her husband and Charles, 76.
Several social media users commented on the now-viral moment, wondering if there is tension between the two women. Us Weekly contacted the royal family for comment.
President Trump and the First Lady arrived in the United Kingdom on Wednesday, landing on the grounds of Windsor Castle. After exchanging pleasantries with members of the royal family, Charles and Camilla began their visit with a carriage-led procession around the palace. Trump then went to the late Queen Elizabeth II’s grave before the state banquet that evening.
Kate also made headlines for her stunning appearance at Wednesday night’s black-tie event. The Princess of Wales wore a stunning gold gown by British designer Phillipa Lepley. She finished the look with the Queen Mary Lover’s Knot Tiara.
Kate continued to turn heads with her looks this week, stepping out with Melania on Thursday, September 18. When the women met with members of the Scouts Squirrels program at Frogmore Gardens, they coordinated their outfits in earth tones. Kate and Melania sat with a group of children and made crafts.
Following that, Kate and Melania presented the children with their “Go Wild” badges for learning about nature, and the youngest group of Scouts in the United Kingdom smiled with pride.
