FORT WAYNE, IN – Nathan Mihm, a former Adams County Township Trustee, was sentenced following an investigation by the Indiana State Board of Accounts (ISBA) that led to charges of perjury and theft.
He was arrested in August 2024 on seven counts, including perjury, four counts of conflict of interest as a public employee, and two counts of theft.
Mihm agreed to a plea deal last month for four of the charges, including perjury, two counts of conflict of interest, and theft, in exchange for a six-year sentence. The majority of his sentence is suspended, with him ordered to serve less than two months in jail.
According to the ISBA investigation, Mihm contracted Kiess Electric to maintain the township properties, which he then subcontracted to his own business.
Maintenance tasks included mowing the township’s three historic cemeteries and maintaining the community building.
The investigation also revealed that the former trustee used money from the town’s rainy day fund to pay Kiess Electric.
The final report from ISBA requested that Mihm pay the state and Union Township $294,959.07.
He was also ordered to pay $12,835.83 in restitution to the Adams County clerk for Union Township by 4 p.m. on September 23.
