Driver dies in Ohio crash involving three heavy rigs

Bath Township, Ohio – On Wednesday, authorities responded to a crash that involved three semi trucks.

According to a media release, the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded at 10:13 a.m. to a report of a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 near SR 81 in Bath Township, Allen County.

Mazen Mammo, 37, of Madison Heights, Michigan, was driving a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia semi southbound on Interstate 75. Nardini Salvatore, 63, of Jacksonville, Florida, was driving a 2020 Volvo 860 semi that was stopped in traffic southbound on Interstate 75. Jean Fervil, 73, of McDonough, Georgia, was driving a 2017 Freightliner Cascadia semi that was stopped in traffic on Interstate 75 southbound.

According to the release, Mammo’s vehicle collided with Salvatore’s vehicle from behind. Salvatore’s truck collided with Fervil’s vehicle. Mammo’s vehicle caught fire as a result of the collision.

According to police, Mammo sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Allen Mortuary Services transported him to the Lucas County morgue. Salvatore and Fervil sustained minor injuries and were taken to Lima Memorial Hospital by Lima EMS.

The 2021 Freightliner was severely damaged and towed from the scene by Beaverdam Fleet. Miller Performance towed the severely damaged 2020 Volvo from the scene. According to the release, the 2017 Freightliner’s trailer suffered moderate damage.

The crash forced the closure of Interstate 75 southbound for several hours.
