Allen County, Indiana – The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that a 36-year-old wrong-way driver was hospitalized after being hit by a semi in Allen County overnight.
The Delphos Police Department attempted a traffic stop on an SUV, but the driver fled down U.S. 30 heading east in the westbound lanes.
According to the department, the driver remained in the westbound lanes for about a half-mile before crossing the median and attempting to enter the eastbound lanes.
Police say the SUV was struck by a semi as it entered the eastbound lanes, pushing it into the median and flipping it.
Police say the SUV driver must be extricated from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital with “potentially life-threatening injuries.”
The semi driver was not seriously injured, but both vehicles sustained disabling damage, according to authorities.
