Check on their mother Husband kills wife and leaves children to find her body, cops say

A man is in jail after authorities in Texas say he murdered his wife and then left her body for their children to discover.

According to county records, Josue Rodas, 29, is being held at the Tarrant County Corrections Center on a murder charge and has a $500,000 bond. His alleged crime took place over Labor Day weekend.

Rodas, his wife, Glenda Maria Aguilera Rubio, 21, and their two children arrived at a home on the 2600 block of Yeager Street in Fort Worth on August 27, intending to “spend a few nights” there and “then move out of state,” according to an arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime.

A woman and her son were also living in the house, as was another man who had rented a room. Rodas, Rubio, and their two children arrived at the house “after an altercation with family members at their place of residence,” according to the affidavit. During that incident, Rodas allegedly “pointed a firearm at other family members.”

On Friday, Rodas and Rubio were “drinking alcohol” with the other man at home when he fell asleep between 10 and 11 p.m. When the other woman returned home at around midnight, she reported that the couple was still drinking. This woman retired to bed about an hour and a half later.

When she awoke, she apparently received a troubling request.

At around 7 a.m. on Saturday, the couple’s two children entered the woman’s bedroom “and asked her to check on their mom because she had blood on her,” according to the report. The woman did exactly that, going to the kitchen where Rubio’s bed was, and discovering the young mother “on the bed with blood on her face.”

The front door to the house was reportedly open, so the woman went outside, thinking Rodas was there. He wasn’t, and Rubio’s 2013 Toyota Corolla with a Mississippi license plate was also gone.

According to the report, nearby surveillance video captured a similar-looking car driving away around 4 a.m. The Fort Worth Police Department was dispatched to the crime scene around 7:15 a.m. Rubio “had what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head,” according to the affidavit, and was pronounced dead at 7:29 a.m.

By the time Fort Worth police officers were attempting to locate Rodas, they learned that officers from the Sweetwater Police Department had already detained him. Sweetwater police say Rodas drove to a gas station in their jurisdiction about three hours away and dialed 911.

When a sergeant arrived and asked why he called 911, Rodas allegedly “stated he had committed a homicide in Fort Worth” but did not provide any further information.

Rodas was booked into the Tarrant County Correctional Center on Tuesday. It is unclear when his next court date will be.
