Expect more patrols in Lorain County this weekend

Lorain, Ohio – Lorain County residents can expect increased law enforcement patrols over the Labor Day weekend.

According to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Elyria Post will conduct additional patrols over the weekend “to crack down on impaired and reckless driving.”

“Labor Day should be about celebrating safely with family and friends, not tragedy on our roads,” Lorain County Sheriff Jack Hall stated in a press release Friday evening. “If you drink, don’t drive — plan ahead.”

The effort began at 6 p.m. Friday night and will continue until 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The sheriff’s office stated that law enforcement will be on the county’s highways, state routes, and local roads to enforce impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding, and seat belt laws.

“As families across our county gather to celebrate the holiday weekend, we want everyone to arrive home safely,” Lt. Ray Santiago of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said in a statement. “Driving impaired puts lives at risk, and our troopers will be out in full force to stop those who choose to make that dangerous decision.”
