Southwest Idaho Faces Dangerous Heat Sunday Before Midweek Storms Bring Relief

Boise, Idaho – Southwest Idaho will endure another round of extreme heat Sunday, with highs near 96 degrees before a shift in the weather pattern finally brings relief midweek. The National Weather Service warns that afternoon temperatures could push into the upper 90s, raising the risk of heat-related illness for those spending extended time outdoors.

Drivers on Interstate 84 should be prepared for hazy skies Sunday morning, as patchy wildfire smoke lingers across Ada and Canyon counties. Reduced visibility may slow traffic through rural stretches of the interstate.

According to the National Weather Service, conditions begin to change late Monday into Tuesday, when showers and thunderstorms bring cooling relief. Boise faces a 30% chance of storms Tuesday afternoon, with scattered showers continuing into Wednesday and Thursday.

The weekend heat wave follows several consecutive hot days, with little overnight relief as lows remain in the upper 60s. Outdoor workers, hikers, and athletes are advised to hydrate often, limit time in direct sun, and avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours. Pets and children should never be left in vehicles, even for a short period.

Communities beyond Boise, including Meridian, Nampa, and Caldwell, will also see triple-digit heat Sunday. By Tuesday evening, returning clouds and scattered storms may bring slick roads and brief downpours across the region.

Residents should stay weather-aware and prepare for shifting conditions, as additional advisories remain possible through midweek.
