PORT CLINTON, Ohio — Following a foot pursuit in Port Clinton on Friday afternoon, two suspects were apprehended, and schools were briefly locked down.
The Port Clinton Police Department reported that around 1:30 p.m., an officer attempted a traffic stop in the 200 block of Harrison Street. Police say a passenger fled the vehicle, sparking a chase involving officers from Port Clinton, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, and the Catawba Island Police Department.
The pursuit continued through several neighborhoods, including West 2nd and 3rd Streets, the West End Community, Alice Street, and the area surrounding Bataan Memorial Intermediate School. Police say the chase ended in the 600 block of Laurel Avenue.
According to police, a witness informed officers during the chase that the suspect was believed to be in possession of a firearm.
“With the pursuit entering the area of Bataan School, it was decided dismissal of the school would be delayed to prevent an incident involving students, parents, or staff,” according to a release from the police.
The Port Clinton School Superintendent also confirmed to WTOL 11 that a brief lockdown was implemented.
Two people were taken into custody and booked into the Ottawa County Detention Facility. Police say both are facing multiple felony charges.
Additional information, such as the suspects’ names and the specific charges they face, has not yet been released. It is also unclear whether either suspect was confirmed to possess a firearm.
