A woman was killed while picking up her mother from work after becoming involved in a road rage incident unrelated to her, according to Arizona authorities.
Yarely Ashley Hermosillo, 27, was in the passenger seat of her boyfriend’s car when they drove to pick up her mother from work on Saturday. Her four-year-old son was also in the car. They were stopped at a red light around 11:45 p.m. at the intersection of W. Camelback Road and N. 51st Avenue in Glendale, a city about nine miles northwest of Phoenix, when a gunshot rang out, sending a bullet through the front windshield and striking Hermosillo in the face, according to police.
Hermosillo’s boyfriend rushed her to the nearest hospital, but she did not survive her injuries.
According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, detectives discovered that the suspect, 33-year-old Jesus Preciado Dousten, had been involved in a road rage incident with another driver.
The other driver told cops he was driving down the road when a pickup truck pulled out in front of him, causing him to slam on his brakes, police said. He honked his horn, drove around the pickup, and stopped at a light in the far right lane. The truck, driven solely by Dousten, pulled up beside him in the center lane, police said. The driver yelled at Dousten, “Watch where he was going.” Dousten allegedly drew a gun and said “you want some of this” in Spanish.
According to the complaint, Dousten then fired in a “random direction” from his driver’s side window. The shot struck Hermosillo’s car, which was to Dousten’s left. According to the affidavit, witnesses reported that Dousten appeared drunk.
Detectives identified Dousten’s vehicle using street cameras and arrested him on Sunday. He admitted to driving the pickup, but asked for an attorney before discussing the alleged road rage incident. Police found the alleged murder weapon at the home of Dousten’s friend. The friend told cops that Dousten came to his house on Saturday night and “appeared upset,” according to the affidavit. Dousten allegedly admitted to his friend to being involved in a road rage incident and shooting in the opposite direction of the man he was arguing with, with the shot hitting a person in another car.
Dousten is accused of second-degree murder and aggravated assault, among other charges. The suspect was also involved in another road rage incident about two months ago, when he punched another driver in the face, according to police.
“We really wanted to bring this family justice, and we were so pleased we were able to get this guy off the street,” Glendale police spokesman Jose Santiago told local ABC affiliate KXNV.
Hermosillo’s TikTok page, which focused on food and recipes, had approximately 100,000 followers. Her family set up a GoFundMe account to raise funds for her funeral.
