A cable detached from Cedar Point’s Power Tower ride, leaving guests stranded off the ground.
According to CBS affiliate WOIO, the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Division of Amusement Ride Safety & Fairs is currently conducting an investigation after the cable detached from one of the ride’s towers on August 10.
Cedar Point spokesperson Tony Clark told the TV station that the system worked properly and the ride returned to its loading position. There were no reported injuries, and all riders left safely.
The amusement park’s website says the attraction is “temporarily closed.”
“Safety is our top priority, and the ride will remain closed while we conduct a thorough review and inspection of it,” a park spokesperson told WOIO.
The ride will be closed until a thorough inspection is completed, according to officials.
What is the Power Tower ride?
Cedar Point describes the amusement park ride as a “state-of-the-art adrenaline factory,” with two towers launching riders 240 feet into the air and two towers dropping riders back down from the same height. Cedar Point says riders can reach speeds of up to 60 mph.
WOIO reported that the ride was inspected this year, citing Ohio Department of Agriculture records.
The ride, which debuted in 1998, was built by S&S Worldwide, a Utah-based company. It is located in the middle of the park.
Cedar Point is in Sandusky, Ohio. It is owned and operated by Six Flags.
