A man with the same name as his father is wanted for allegedly murdering both of his parents last month, Texas authorities said.
Christopher Leman Jr.’s whereabouts are unknown, at least as of Friday morning. He is “not in custody and is considered a danger to the community,” according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
On July 11, at approximately 5:30 p.m., a family member of residents at a home on the 10500 block of Crosby Lynchburg Road in east Harris County requested that deputies conduct a welfare check because he had not heard from them.
When deputies arrived, they discovered Christopher Leman Sr., 75, and Mary Leman, 73, inside “suffering from severe injuries.”
Christopher Leman Sr. was pronounced dead at home in the living room, while Mary Leman was discovered alive and transported to a nearby hospital. She was expected to live, but died two days later, according to the sheriff’s office.
On the same day that the victims were discovered, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez provided additional details about the violence. He stated that the home “is in a heavily vegetated area, approximately half a mile west of the roadway” and that Christopher Leman Sr. was discovered with a gunshot wound.
While Mary Leman was also thought to have been shot, after being examined at the hospital, Gonzalez retracted this claim, saying she had “a laceration to her head but it does not appear she was shot.”
Based on the evidence gathered and leads pursued during the preliminary investigation, the married couple’s 47-year-old son was identified as the murder suspect. Christopher Leman Jr. is specifically wanted for capital murder. A person convicted of capital murder in Texas faces the death penalty.
Authorities want anyone with information about Christopher Leman Jr. to contact them right away.
“It’s a sad situation when you have a death like this, but these people are in their mid-70s and most likely retired. “I’m sure they didn’t deserve this,” Harris County Major Anthony McConnell told Houston’s Fox affiliate KRIV in July.
