New London, Ohio  – A National Weather Service survey team confirmed that a tornado touched down in Huron County during early Wednesday morning storms.

The EF-1 tornado, which was about 0.33 miles long and 50 yards wide, hit New London at 2:04 a.m., with peak winds of 90 mph.

According to surveyors, the tornado blew over one of the bullpens at a small baseball field at the New London Recreation Area before snapping a large tree in Grove Street Cemetery and entering the village’s residential area.

“Residents reported their ears popping and their homes shaking during the event,” the NWS stated in its report.

The tornado toppled a tree onto a New London home, uprooted another tree onto power lines, damaged fences, and snapped three utility poles, blocking the road, according to the NWS.

According to the NWS, the tornado dissipated within one minute of touching down.

Investigators said there were no reported injuries.

This is the second confirmed tornado in this week’s storms. An EF-0 tornado struck near Middlefield in Geauga County on Tuesday night, injuring three livestock and damaging buildings.
