A first responder grant helps Lima Police modernize crucial response tools

LIMA, Ohio  – The Lima Police Department has received cutting-edge equipment thanks to a grant from a national pipeline company.

Energy Transfer, an energy logistics company, presented the department with a nearly $15,000 check from its First Responder Grant Program. The funding enabled the department to purchase 17 tactical headsets and radios for use in critical response situations.

“We received communication headsets for our SWAT teams. “They connect to our helmets,” said Lima Police Department Lt. Ben Thompson. “They have noise-canceling technology to cancel out noise from the outside so we can talk to each other, speak clearly, plan effectively during our raids and our responses for critical incidents.”

According to Chris Koop, manager of public affairs for Energy Transfer, the company is committed to supporting the communities in which it operates.

“This is an important community for us. Our pipeline infrastructure transports products produced here throughout the state, region, and, in some cases, the country,” Koop explained. “And so when we think about the Lima community and the services that our assets, supporting first responder communities, provide the community, it’s a really good opportunity to invest in the communities where we operate.”

Energy Transfer’s First Responder Fund has donated more than $2 million across the country.
