LIMA, Ohio – The 175th Allen County Fair begins in just a few days, and organizers promise something for everyone.
Troy Elwer, the fair’s promotions and operations manager, spoke Monday at the Lima Rotary Club, providing an update on the fairgrounds’ preparations for the major event. Dozens of projects have been completed, ranging from the installation of a new main water line to electrical upgrades, painting, and other improvements totaling more than $2 million in funding from grants, donations, and local contributions.
Elwer also revealed special plans for the 175th anniversary, such as a “Sunday Celebration” featuring several free events in the “Visit Greater Lima” grandstand area.
“Something completely new that we have never done before. And a lot of people have asked why we charge for grandstand events, and it’s largely because they cost a lot of money to bring in each year, but the Sunday celebration is all about bringing families together and giving the community a really cool event,” Elwer said.
The Sunday events on August 17 include a car show from 1 to 4 p.m., a Direct Energy concert at 1 p.m., a performance by The Cyrkle from Chicago at 5 p.m., and a concert by Micky Dolenz, the last remaining Monkee, at 6:15 p.m.
