Bakersfield, California – A 57-year-old convicted murderer died Monday after being discovered wounded in his cell at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Michael Doss was pronounced dead after being discovered with “visible wounds,” CDCR officials stated. No other details about the injuries were provided.
His cellmate, Jake Raper, 62, has been placed in restricted housing while the investigation is ongoing, according to officials. According to CDCR, he is a third-strike offender serving a life sentence for assault with a deadly weapon.
Prison staff discovered Doss unresponsive at 8:04 a.m., according to the corrections department, and he was pronounced dead forty minutes later after receiving treatment at the prison’s triage area.
Officials reported that no weapon was recovered.
