Southern California is experiencing extreme heat, with temperatures in the Coachella Valley and San Diego County deserts reaching up to 115 degrees through Tuesday evening. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for areas including Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Coachella, Indio, La Quinta, Borrego Springs, and the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning.
The warning is in effect until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, with temperatures expected to hit 110 to 115 degrees. The conditions present a serious risk for heat-related illnesses, especially for those without access to proper cooling or hydration.
Officials are urging residents to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. People without air conditioning should seek cooling centers, and cars should never be left unattended with children or pets inside, as temperatures can rise dangerously fast.
While the heat is expected to ease slightly by midweek, triple-digit temperatures may continue in the desert areas beyond Tuesday. Authorities warn that further heat advisories may be issued if conditions remain extreme.
