Dangerous Heat to Impact Kern County Slopes and Desert through Early Tuesday

Dangerous heat is set to grip the Kern County Slopes and Desert areas through early Tuesday, with temperatures expected to surpass 110 degrees and minimal relief overnight. The National Weather Service has issued a warning, stating that the combination of extreme daytime heat and warm nighttime lows poses a serious health risk, particularly for those without adequate cooling.

The warning is in effect from 2 p.m. Sunday through 5 a.m. Tuesday and affects communities such as Tehachapi, Mojave, California City, Rosamond, and Edwards Air Force Base. Forecasters have noted that overnight lows have not cooled sufficiently in recent days, further elevating the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors, including the elderly and young children. Pets should not be left outside or in vehicles, as the heat can be particularly dangerous for them. Air conditioning, cooling centers, and shaded spaces are essential to help manage the extreme conditions.

The heat warning will remain in place until early Tuesday, with the possibility of additional advisories if these extreme conditions continue.
