LIMA, Ohio – The West Ohio Food Bank received community support Saturday morning during a personal hygiene item drive.

Volunteers and employees gathered in front of the food bank to collect essential hygiene items such as shampoo, body wash, and mouthwash. The items will be distributed throughout the food bank’s 11-county service area, with a focus on assisting local senior citizens who may be experiencing financial hardship.

“SNAP benefits do not cover any hygiene items, so organizing a drive like this is extremely beneficial. So, the small budgets that they may have available each month can be used for other things, such as medications or other care that they may require, rather than worrying about these hygiene items,” said Tommie Harner, CEO of the West Ohio Food Bank.

If you were unable to attend Saturday’s event, Harner said you can still donate personal hygiene items at the food bank Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. An additional collection drive is scheduled for October, with more information to follow on the food bank’s Facebook page.
