August Sobriety Checkpoints Announced by the Highway Patrol, Including Codington and Day Counties

The South Dakota Highway Patrol has announced that sobriety checkpoints will be conducted in 13 counties throughout the state in August. This includes local checkpoints in Codington and Day counties.

The monthly checkpoints are strategically placed to discourage impaired driving and improve public safety on the roads. These initiatives are funded by the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety and carried out by the South Dakota Highway Patrol, which frequently collaborates with local law enforcement agencies.

In addition to Codington and Day counties, checkpoints are planned in Beadle, Brown, Brule, Davison, Hughes, Lawrence, Lincoln, Minnehaha, Moody, Pennington, and Yankton counties.

Officials strongly encourage all drivers to make responsible decisions and avoid driving while intoxicated, regardless of whether a checkpoint is scheduled in their area. Anyone who has consumed alcohol is advised to designate a sober driver or use alternative transportation such as commercial or public services.

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety oversees both the Office of Highway Safety and the Highway Patrol, which work together to make South Dakota’s roads safer for all drivers.
