Naperville Storm Recovery Crews Work Around the Clock After Severe Storm

Naperville city crews have been working tirelessly after a severe storm swept through the area, leaving behind downed trees, widespread debris, and power outages across the city. According to the City of Naperville, more than 90 trees or large branches that were blocking roads were removed in the past 20 hours. Five Public Works crews and four contractors were deployed on Wednesday and continue their efforts to clear debris throughout the city.

Weather Impact and Response

The city’s Emergency Communications Center reported a surge in calls during the peak of the storm. Between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, the city dispatched 62 storm-related police calls and 38 fire calls, with a total of 546 calls answered. Additionally, the Customer Care Center and Public Works received 694 calls between 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday from residents reporting outages and safety concerns.

Power Restoration and Cleanup Efforts

Power restoration was a top priority for city officials. By 1:30 a.m. today, all utility services were restored, and all roads were reopened, allowing residents and businesses to resume normal activities. Forestry crews are now focused on clearing damaged parkway trees and hanging branches, with efforts expected to continue for the next few weeks.

City Officials’ Gratitude

City officials thanked residents and businesses for their patience during this recovery process. As clean-up continues, Naperville’s forestry and public works crews will remain active to ensure full restoration and to maintain public safety in the wake of this severe weather event.
