Sioux Falls, South Dakota – The South Dakota Department of Corrections informed law enforcement and the public of Michael Pigney’s impending release from state prison.
Pigney, aged 62, will be released from prison on July 22, 2025.
He is being released after serving his entire sentence for possession of a controlled substance and failure to update address as a sex offender in Minnehaha County.
Pigney will be released to Sioux Falls without the supervision of parole officers.
“This offender has a criminal history involving sex offenses and institutional assessments that indicate a high risk to reoffend, so I am alerting law enforcement and the public of this offender’s release from prison,” Kellie Wasko, the secretary of corrections, said.
Pigney is white, 5 feet 11 inches tall, and weighs about 145 pounds. He’s got gray hair and blue eyes.
This notification is in addition to the letters currently being sent to law enforcement and the notices provided to the Division of Criminal Investigation every month.
Since 2011, the Department of Corrections has issued 19 public notices regarding pending high-risk offender releases.
